Founded in 1952, China National Cereals, Oils & Foodstuffs Import & Export Corporation ( or COFCO )has been devoted to the development of China's foreign trade, international economic cooperation and world trade in cereals, oil and foodstuffs. In the past 46 years, its total volume of import and export has reached usd 130 billion with COFCO establishing good stable relationships with about 3,000 business clients from over 120 countries and regions. The business volume exceeded USD13.5 billion last years.
Today, COFCO consists of 8 general divisions and 30 wholly owned subsidiaries. Outside China, it has set up 19 directly-controlled subsidiaries, which are divided geographically and jointly operated under European, Asia and Pacific and Latin American holding companies. In the past four consecutive years, COFCO was ranked with the top 500 world companies on the American "Fortune" magazine and the first 18 companies of its kind in the world in 1997. It is also the 63rd in terms of net assets among the 500 Chinese " backbone " state-owned
enterprises, and the first among chinese foreign trade enterprises.
