Ultraviolet light produced by the sun in high doses is natures way of disinfecting water. It is over 200 years since ultra violet was discovered but the disinfecting properties of UV was not discovered until 1877 by Danish scientist Dr Niels Ryberg Finsen.
UV is invisible to the naked eye and is divided into three distinct band widths; UV A, B and C. The most effective band is UVC at 100-280nM.
The use of UV light in sterilizing water has the following properties:
