Geocell is a kind of thermoplastic sheet materials that are connected in series by ultrasonic welds and forms the three-dimensional cellular structure when expanded. Its height, seam distance, and thickness have important influence to its engineering property. In civil engineering, geocell of different size can form mat bases in different apparent cohesion, reinforcement intensity, and thickness with filling materials such as soil, sand, and rock etc. These mat bases can be laid in the places needed according to the requirement of the engineering, for the use of stabilization of the roadbed, slope protection and construction of the retaining wall, etc. Geocell, as the key element of the polymeric cellular confinement system (CCS), has a wide range of use, not only in the treatment of weak subgrade, load support and gravity retaining area, such as retaining wall, etc; but also in the protection of slopes and channels. Geocell of the flexible, three-dimensional, open structure can be placed nto the proper position and infilled with selected materials such as aggregate, topsoil or concrete. They can provide effective and economical means of protecting and rehabilitating coherent structure.
