You must have known Houfeng seismoscope if you are interested in the brilliant chinese history and culture. The famous Houfeng seismoscope was invented by Zhangheng in the year of AD132 in the acient Dynasty of East Han in China. It is more than 1800 years that from then on approximately .This outstanding event was recorded in the great book of Zhanghen biography in Post-han review (HOU HANSHU) . Incredibly, now It is regressed though there is only 196 chinese worlds in the Zhangheng biography in Houhan shu.It is a miracle

At present , the copy houfeng seismoscopes which handmade of refined brass are availabe in the proportion of 1/20,1/18,1/14 and 1/8 according to the original measure.

Records of earthquake detector in the great book of post-han review
In 132 AD , Great scientist Zhangheng invented the Houfeng Seismoscope
which was fabricated of fined brass with this great scientist 's deft hands. It 's diameter is eight feet and looks like a wine vessel.It is iinscribed with seal characters and the shapes of mountains and turtles ,birds and animals .There is a pillar in the center and eight set of ingenious gears on the pillar. Decarated vivid eight dragons outside ,each carrying a bronze ball in mouth ,under each dragon , sitting a toad with mouth open correspondingly .Some special iingenious devices ware hidden into the vessel controlling the teeth of dragons. Once earthquake occured, the vessel will shake the dragons and the hidden ingenious devices will make one dragon spit out the ball carried into it's mouth and the corresponding toad sitting the beneath will receive it immediately .In view of the sound of the vibration is loud enough to draw attention of the watchers. Because only one dragon spit out the ball ,twhist he other seven did not ,so the watchkeeper will know the direction and the location of earthquake immediately .It had been proved very practical. Once , one dragon spit out ball ,but the persons did not feel the shake of earthquake at that time .So the scholars in the capical city : Luoyang blamed the Zhangheng and thought it was fraudulent .However , a few days later ,news came and one earthquake had been taken in Longxi .So all believed in it and appraised it very marvelous. Since then ,the historiographers had been ordered to write down the direction and location of earthquake |
